About

Diego Alonso (www.DiegoAlonsoMusic.com) is one of the U.S.’s most experienced guitarists specializing in Spanish, Classical, Flamenco, Flamenco Jazz, Latin, and Latin Jazz. He has performed for over 5000 clients and has over 17 years of international performance and teaching experience in over 15 countries. Every year, Diego plays over 300 events including concert venues, library programs, fairs, festivals, house concerts, private events, school assemblies, universities and more. Diego's current bands are his Flamenco Latin Jazz Project, his Flamenco Music & Dance Ensemble, and his Spanish Guitar Duo. As an educator, Diego also lectures at universities across the globe on Flamenco History, Music, and Dance.

 

Diego Alonso began studying brass instruments at the age of 8 and guitar at age 17. He has been composing, performing, and teaching across the globe since 2002 and has shared the stage with a long list of prominent musicians from all genres of music including Miguel Vargas (flamenco dance), Kinan Abou-Afach (cello and composition), Ale el Cano (flamenco voice), Rocío Márquez (flamenco voice), Chihsuan Yang (violin), Ronnie Malley (oud and vocals), Darwin Noguera (jazz piano), Victor Garcia (jazz trumpet), Alberto Sellés (flamenco dance), Alfonso Cid (flamenco vocals), Las Guitarras de España (world music), Spanish Guitar Duo (Carlo Basile), Chiara Mangiameli (flamenco dance), Alfonso Ponticelli (gypsy jazz), Alvaro Gonzalez (flamenco vocals), Fulcrum Point New Music Project (contemporary classical), and a long etcetera.

 

As a composer, performer, and teacher Diego has traveled to over 15 countries. He has participated in hundreds of highly acclaimed festivals and stages including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Gran Teatro de Huelva (Spain), Chicago Flamenco Music Festival, Ciclo Flamenco Otoño (Spain), Instituto Cervantes Stockholm (Sweden), Polski Teatr (Poland), Chicago World Music Festival, American Spanish Dance Festival, Pabst Theater (WI), City Winery, (Chicago), Instituto Cervantes Chicago, and many more.

 

Since 2002 Diego has traveled annually to Spain to study flamenco guitar. In early 2010 he moved to Seville to attended the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco where he studied under some of flamenco's most respected master educators and performers (Pedro Sierra, Niño de Pura, Paco Cortés, Eduardo Rebollar, Tino Van Der Sman, Javi Gomez, and Pepa Sanchez). Diego graduated with Highest Honors in Flamenco Guitar Performance from the Fundación in 2012.  In addition to his studies in flamenco music, Diego has taken a multitude of Master classes and workshops with master guitarists such as Flavio Rodrigues, Jose Luis Rodriguez, and Juan Carmona (flamenco), Denis Azabagic (classical), David Bloom (jazz), John Moulder (jazz), and studied classical guitar for 3 years (Loyola U Chicago). Diego is currently (2019-2020) pursuing his Masters degree in Flamencology (Musicology/Ethnomusicology & Pedagogy in Flamenco) at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain).
