About the Group Leader

Diego Alonso (DiegoAlonsoMusic.com) has been performing flamenco guitar professionally for 18 years. He graduated with highest honors in Flamenco Guitar Performance from the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco in Seville, Spain where he studied and performed for 3 years with some of flamenco's most respected master educators and performers. In addition to his studies in flamenco music, Diego has taken a multitude of Master classes and workshops with master guitarists such as Flavio Rodrigues, Jose Luis Rodriguez, and Juan Carmona (flamenco), Denis Azabagic (classical), David Bloom (jazz), John Moulder (jazz), and studied classical guitar for 4 years (Loyola U Chicago). Diego is currently (2019-2020) pursuing his Masters degree in Flamencology & Flamenco pedagogy at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona, Spain).​​​​

Flamenco School Assembly Program

  • 45-60 minute lecture-style performance.

  • Bilingual presentation (Spanish-English).

  • Audience Participation.

  • Lead musician arrives 30-60 minutes prior to start-time.

  • Lead musician works closely with your program coordinator and sound engineer.​


  • Flamenco: Music, Dance & History (Country: Spain)

  • Traditional and contemporary flamenco.

  • Flamenco guitar, Flamenco singing, flamenco dance, percussion, and flamenco history.

  • Intersectional Topics (upon request): Cultural Significance, Flamenco + Sociology, Traditional and Contemporary Flamenco Harmony, Flamenco + Gender Studies, Flamenco + Race & Ethnicity Studies, Flamenco + Jazz, Flamenco + Classical Music, & Flamencology and Ethnomusicology.

Flamenco School Assembly Ensembles

  • Flamenco Trio (1 guitarist, 1 guitarist/singer, and 1 flamenco dancer)

  • Flamenco Quartet (2 guitarists, 1 dancer, and either 1 singer or 1 percussionist)

  • Flamenco Quintet (2 guitarists, 1 dancer, 1 singer & 1 percussionist or 2nd flamenco dancer)

  • For larger and/or contemporary Flamenco Jazz programs we also perform with additional percussionists, singers, violinists, bassists, brass players, and dancers.


  • Elementary schools (K-8)

  • High Schools (9-12)

  • Universities (assemblies, workshops, lectures, and master classes)


Technical Details

  • Setup: 20-45 minutes

  • Takedown: 10-15 minutes

  • Professional PA/Amplification, Cables, and Microphones provided by artists

  • Small, wooden, dance floor ("tablao") provided upon request

Supplemental Funding

  • Supplemental funding is available to Illinois schools and libraries through the Illinois Arts Council Tour Program: www.arts.illinois.gov
